National Goodwill Week Celebration Scheduled for May

05/04/2007

(Fredericksburg, VA) – You hear “Goodwill” and you think, “Time to clean out the closet.” Please do: thousands of people across the United States and Canada, including right here in the Rappahannock region, are struggling to find and keep good jobs.
Goodwill is there to help them. We do that by selling your donations of clothing and household goods in Goodwill stores and using the proceeds to fund our job training programs. People with disabilities especially benefit from our programs and services.

Thanks to your support, last year alone, about 950,000 people benefited from Goodwill’s employment programs, including 1,988 in the Rappahannock region. Thanks to you, Goodwill places someone in a job every 57 seconds of every business day.

Next week, as we celebrate National Goodwill Industries Week May 6-12, we want to say thank you to the thousands of people throughout our region who clean out their closets for the benefit of Goodwill. Thank you to the businesses in our region who hire Goodwill graduates. And thank you to our volunteers and staff who dedicate themselves to helping people earn a paycheck and support themselves and their families, particularly those people with disabilities.

Please watch the Sunday Free Lance-Star for a 30% off coupon and bring it to your local Goodwill store for some great savings. We also want to invite you to visit one of our five Retail Stores on Monday, May 7th between 12:30-1:30pm and participate in our Goodwill Industries Week Kick-off Ceremony and enjoy some refreshments with our staff. Help us celebrate Goodwill’s mission all of next week.

Rappahannock Goodwill Industries is a private not-for-profit organization that serves the city of Fredericksburg and a 12-county region. It provides work opportunities and job training to people with barriers to employment, particularly those with disabilities. Its operations include two job help centers, a commercial laundry, off-site custodial and administrative services, an outsourcing and contract facility and five retail stores and donation centers.
