(Fredericksburg, VA) – Rappahannock Goodwill Industries and the Girl Scout Commonwealth Council of Virginia’s 15th Annual Goodwill to Others Community Drive was held on Saturday, November 3rd throughout the City of Fredericksburg, Caroline County, Culpeper County, King George County, Stafford County, and Spotsylvania County. This year’s community drive tally is now complete and the community donations set Another record for the annual drive. “We had 163,592 pounds of donated clothes and household items given through the Girl Scout’s community drive this year,” said Mike West, Goodwill’s vice president for marketing and development. “Goodwill will be able to give out 546 – $50 vouchers totaling $27,300 to the six local Department of Social Services in our region to help families in need,” West added.
For every 300 pounds of donated items collected by the Girl Scouts on November 3rd, Goodwill gives a $50 voucher redeemable at any of the five Goodwill Retail Stores in the multi-county region for donated clothes or household items. “The Goodwill to Others Community Drive had a 22% increase over last year’s drive,” said Kerry Ebbert, Goodwill’s vice president of retail operations. “The Girls Scouts did a wonderful job with this community service project and they should be extremely proud of this huge increase over last year’s efforts.” Ebbert said.
The Goodwill to Others project will conclude with a Closing Ceremony & Celebration Party on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Liberty Lanes Bowling Center. “Last year, we had over 300 girls come to Liberty Lanes for the Closing Ceremony and this year we already have 419 girls registered to attend.” Ebbert said. “We greatly appreciate all the hard work the girls and their leaders did over the past 3-weeks prior to the collection day and the Liberty Lanes Party is our way of saying ‘thank you.’” Ebbert added.
