Rappahannock Goodwill Industries and the Girl Scout Commonwealth Council of Virginia’s Annual Goodwill to Others Community Drive was held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 throughout the City of Fredericksburg, Caroline County, Culpeper County, Essex County, King George County, Stafford County, and Spotsylvania County. This year’s community drive tally is now complete. “We had over 56,000 pounds of donated clothes and household items given through the Girl Scout’s community drive,” said Ted Smith, Goodwill’s vice president for Donated Goods. “Goodwill will be able to give out vouchers totaling $9,400 to the local Department of Social Services in our region to help families in need,” Smith added.
Goodwill gives a $50 voucher redeemable at any of the eight Goodwill Stores in the multi-county region for donated clothes or household items. “The Girl Scouts did a wonderful job with this community service project and they should be extremely proud of the results,” Smith said.
The Goodwill to Others project concluded with a Closing Ceremony and Celebration Party for the girls that participated. This year the festivities were held at the Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp in Caroline County.
