Girl Scouts and Goodwill join forces again for Community Drive

(Fredericksburg, VA) – Rappahannock Goodwill Industries and the Girl Scout Commonwealth Council of Virginia are joining forces for the 14th Annual Goodwill to Others Community Drive this Saturday, November 4th throughout Fredericksburg, Caroline County, King George County, Stafford County and Spotsylvania County. Community members can get involved by donating to one of the local participating Girl Scout troops, or by taking their donations to Goodwill Stores between 9:00am and 4:00pm.
“All donations that come into Goodwill stores or our donation trailers this Saturday, November 4th will count towards the Girl Scouts’ Community Drive,” said Mike West, vice president of marketing and development for Rappahannock Goodwill Industries. “The program works like this. For every 300 pounds of donated goods collected, Goodwill will give a $50 voucher to the local Department of Social Services to be distributed to families in need in the region and are redeemable at any Goodwill store in our region,” West added.

The donation sites that area residents can take their clean, gently used clothing or household items to include Goodwill Retail Store, 2336 Plank Road, Fredericksburg; Dahlgren Naval Base, 17320 Dahlgren Road, King George; King George Middle School; Stafford Elementary School; Goodwill Retail Store, 72 Doc Stone Road, north Stafford; Goodwill Retail Store, Route 17/England Run, south Stafford; The Shops at Ladysmith, Jefferson Davis Highway, Caroline County; Rite Aid Store, 104 Broaddus Avenue, Bowling Green; Courthouse Road Elementary School, 9911 Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania; Rappahannock YMCA, (Spotsylvania Branch) 5700 Smith Station Road, Spotsylvania.

“This is a great community service project that our local Girl Scouts have been involved with for fourteen years,” said Maryclaire Kozlow, field executive for the Girl Scout Commonwealth Council. “We are happy to be working with Goodwill to help needy families in our area,” Kozlow said.

Rappahannock Goodwill Industries is a private not-for-profit organization that serves the city of Fredericksburg and a 12-county region. It provides work opportunities and job training to people with barriers to employment, particularly those with disabilities. Its operations include a commercial laundry, off-site custodial and administrative services, a outsourcing and contract facility and five retail stores and donation centers.
