As Unemployment rises, Rappahannock Goodwill Helps People Find Jobs

03/06/2009

Fredericksburg, VA – The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced today that the nation’s unemployment rate rose to 8.1 percent. At Rappahannock Goodwill Industries we remain committed to our mission of helping people gain employment. As the Fredericksburg region’s leading nonprofit provider of employment career services, Rappahannock Goodwill knows that it takes a comprehensive approach to help people find and keep good jobs.

“Nationwide, Goodwill helps place someone in a good job every 53 seconds of every business day,” says Woody Van Valkenburgh, President/CEO of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries. “During these tough economic times, Rappahannock Goodwill can help people at our Job Help Centers gain the self confidence and job seeking skills that are absolutely necessary in today’s job market.”

In the Fredericksburg Region, the Job Help Centers at Rappahannock Goodwill help people with disabilities, those who lack education or work experience and other job seekers earn paychecks to support themselves and their families. Goodwill workforce development experts customize a plan for each individual, based on his or her skills and interests. They provide the person with the necessary support so he or she can be successful in finding a job. Rappahannock Goodwill helps people find jobs in a variety of fields including health care, banking, computer programming and janitorial services. “When people donate and shop at the eight area Rappahannock Goodwill retail stores, they make an economic investment in their communities,” says Woody Van Valkenburgh “Eighty-four percent of revenues fund programs to help workers become productive, taxpaying citizens.”

Rappahannock Goodwill Industries is ready to support our community’s unemployed and continue its tradition of helping people who are having a hard time finding meaningful work.
